Seek good, not evil, that you may live

Amos 5:14-15: Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the LORD God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.

God always longs to be with us, but he will not sacrifice his character to extend us cheap grace. Some people claim that God is on their side. In reality, the important question is whether we are on God's side! Where are we? That's determined more by what we seek and do rather than what we think and say. We say God created us in his likeness, a grace that does not call us to be like him and live with Jesus as our Lord. He's looking for believers who put their character where their mouths are and work to bring goodness to their world, culture, and legal systems.

Loving God, your righteousness and holiness are beyond our thoughts and imagination. We know that our best efforts are only vain attempts to attain them. Even though I desire, dear Father, to be more like you in every way that it is humanly possible. Let us know of your presence with us as we seek after You, Your character, and Your goodness in our life. Teach us to be revolted by the things you call evil. In the name of Infant Jesus we pray. Amen.
